Exploring our American legacy

  • One family that shaped our nation

From the 1770s to the early 1900s, the Adams family played a major role in shaping the historical events, democratic institutions, and political and cultural forces that define our nation.

When completed, the Adams Memorial will explore our American legacy through the lives, words and deeds of four generations of Adams men and women. The goal: to inspire today’s young people and future generations to follow the family’s example of public service, personal integrity, and devotion to democratic ideals.

  • President George W. Bush signs the 2001 law authorizing creation of the Adams Memorial.

    Why build an Adams memorial?

In a July 2011 editorial, the Washington Post makes a strong argument for building a national memorial to honor John Adams and his descendants.
